Cochran was the lead electrical contractor and provided electrical renovation services for the Pike Place Market, a collection of historic buildings, many of which are more than 100 years old. Phase one included renovation of two of the 13 buildings known as Pike Place Market. Phase two included an additional thre buildings, and phase three included renovations of the Economy and Soames-Dunn buildings. The renovation was very complicated due to the age and diversity of the systems within the buildings and the reuse of some existing systems that must work seamlessly with the new systems being installed. All switchgear was replaced and every tenant got a new feeder from a new SCL vault and new main electrical room. Part of the electrical scope included supporting the structural upgrades and added fire alarm for the apartments above the market. All work was done without powering down tenant spaces during operation hours, and the switchgear contains tenant metering so that the market can invoice tenants without having individual meters read by the utility monthly.
