3D Modeling
Cochran is a leader in 3D modeling, using Building Information Modeling (BIM) on all of our large projects. BIM provides a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility. As such, it serves as a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility and creates a reliable basis for decisions during the life of the project, from inception to completion. By using this system, we are able to plan the routing of our conduit and other building systems, and easily identify how they interact with each other. BIM graphically shows the team where we are, what we are doing, and the efficiencies of good planning. Early detailing with BIM makes it possible to resolve problems proactively and make structural changes if there are constructability issues.
One of the most beneficial parts of modeling for our crews is the ability to completely map a room before it is installed, so that the electricians in the field are not spending extra time laying out conduit and boxes once they are in the space. This saves time and reduces congestion in high-traffic work areas because we are able to get in and get out as efficiently as possible. It also allows our team to work within aggressively condensed schedules more easily and effectively. Equipped with our computer models, we are often able to start installing in areas where the design is not yet completed, because we do not need the engineered installation drawings to begin our work.
Cochran currently has three CAD operators who are available for all of our projects as needed and several additional CAD operators who are assigned exclusively to projects for longer durations.
Cochran provided Design/Build responsibilities on the tenant improvement build-out of the Chinook Office Building Project. The new 296,000 square foot Chinook Building, located on Goat Hill, features a 13-story office building, with a day care center and retail space on the main level and two levels of below grade parking containing 87 stalls.
Electrical Construction & Maintenance magazine ranked Cochran 43rd in their 2007 Top 50 Electrical Contractors Listing. Cochran was the only electrical contractor for the state of Washington ranked in the top 50.
